Welcome to Waves of Words

Welcome to Waves of Words! Waves of Words is a literary magazine that was founded in 2023 as a place to join writing and Christianity. It’s a safe place for Christian writers to publish their scraps of praise and hidden testimonies. Here at Waves of Words, we’re aiming for it to be a place that gives Christian writers a platform and a place to develop your relationship with God. Throughout the deep ocean waters that you wade in through life, Waves of Words is here to bring you to God as he calls you out into the unknown.

Currently, Issue I: Beginning of the End, is open. We’re looking for anything about The Start, whether that be prose about Genesis or the start of your faith, we’re excited to see it all. Our non-fiction blog is open for submission all year long if fiction isn’t your cup of tea. We hope that your writing will find a home with us!

But if you’re still hesitant about Waves of Words, here’s an interview with our founder and Editor-in-Chief to learn more about Waves of Words:

Interview:

  1. How did WoW start?

    1. WoW started after a few sleepless nights where I pondered my purpose in life. On one hand, I was an avid writer, and I knew I would shrivel up and die if I didn’t continue writing. On the other, I wanted to become a stronger Christian and have that play a large part of my life. During this time, I was very confused but prayed that God would reveal the answer to me. The next day, I was trying to sleep when the idea of combining writing with Christianity was born. I was so excited to start it, and so many ideas were springing to life that it took me a while to fall back asleep.

  2. What is your Mission and Vision?

    1. WoW’s goal is to connect writing with Christianity and to help deepen one’s relationship with God through writing. This is something I personally struggled with, and WoW was my way of connecting the two things together. I also noticed that they are a quite a few Christian writers on Writergram, and I wanted WoW to also be a place for them to publish their writing.

  3. What inspired you to start a Christian literary magazine?

    1. My hunger for writing and desire to be closer with God are the two fueling factors. Part of the reason I wanted to do so was also because I felt like my main work in progress did not incorporate Christianity enough, but I still wanted to write works influenced by Christianity.

  4. What book series influenced you in your childhood?

    1. Being the avid reader that I was as a child, I had many books that I loved. The Warriors series by Erin Hunter helped me learn context clues and way too many words that I still don’t fully understand. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series was what introduced me to fandoms and taught me analyzation skills. I also adored the Narnia series (dare I say I enjoyed the movies more than the books?). In fact, I loved the movies so much that I sobbed after watching both Prince Caspian and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I still stand by my point that young Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian looked like a stereotypical Jesus.

  5. What book in the Bible is more similar to the topics you want to cover in your magazine?

    1. There isn’t a specific book that represents WoW as a whole, but Genesis is a great book to write about for Issue I: Beginning of the End. I’m really hoping to find some prose/poetry about Genesis to publish in Issue I.

This wouldn't be a complete first post if we didn't honor our amazing team with the recognition they deserve!

Meet the Team:

Jeannie Lam Found & Editor-in-Chief Jeannie Lam started her writing career typing with size 24 font and neon pink. When not writing, she reads painful books and obsesses over her favourite character's death. Literary devices, especially alliteration and pathetic fallacies, intrigue her to no end. She also collects special edition books and would enjoy a random conversation about any book.

Sophia Sinclair

Head of Blog

Soph Sinclair is a writer of all genres with a soft spot for Dystopian. She's the author of Wildfire, Cybill 6, Thugs and Thieves, and a superhero wip in the works, that she is planning to traditionally publish. If she's not in her writer mode, she is usually found obsessing for a new tv show, listening to Taylor Swift's discography, and cooking her comfort spicy cheeto dish. She is a highschool student, currently homeschooled. Dedicating her extra time to write her novels and researching genres, tropes, and character arcs for her account, @sophsinclairwrites. Where she is found ranting about her ocs yet again and connecting with writers, readers, and authors alike.

Dai Shota Editor Dai Shota is a teen Christian writer and digital artist. She started writing in the second grade and has been writing a mix of poetry and prose since then. Dai is working to be a published teen author with her anthology Kiss The Stars, Kiss My Scars. Dai is an editor of Waves of Words Literary Magazine.
